House of Hope
North Korea is one of the world’s darkest places, with millions of North Koreans dying from starvation and neglect in recent years.
Because of the harsh conditions in their country, many North Koreans choose to flee to China and other surrounding nations, even though capture by these authories results in deportation back to North Korea and an almost certain punishment of imprisonment and even death.
Many North Korean women who flee to China, for example, end up cohabitating with Chinese men. If the women are captured and sent home, any children resulting from these ill-fated relationships are often abandoned, left to fend for themselves in a country that rejects them.
SGI helps support an orphanage in an undisclosed location in China that takes in these North Korean children. Our support helps provide these children with food, clothing, shelter, and education.
Additionally, SGI’s funds are also used to send desperately needed food and other supplies into North Korea to help feed that nation’s starving populace.
